this is sir maynard galam. a social studies teacher in XUHS. although i wasn’t part of any of his classes, i got to know him. he’s always that happy soul walking around the campus greeting everyone he knows or even those who aren’t familiar to him. he’s a cheerful reminder that early project deadlines, failing marks, or even crazy teachers are never reasons why we shouldn’t enjoy high school. but one thing i’d never forget about him was when he went to our classroom and told us to keep quiet (which was hard for us. HAHA. ). i’d also remember hearing his voice even if he was in the other classroom. pretty loud :). and another thing i like about his aura is that he’d smile for you. ANYTIME. that’s sir maynard.

we visited him at the hospital today. 

he was diagnosed to have had pancreatic cancer, stage 4. he’s thinner now. but that smile, especially when we came in, didn’t cease to brighten up the room. he told us he wanted to teach, travel, be with his colombiere and other students. he was clutching a cross in his right hand and rubbed it around his chest. i wanted to pity the man, but the way he treated himself made no reason for me to do so. he was cheerful still. happy. thankful. well, that’s sir maynard.

when we were about to leave, he held each one of us, held our hands and said the same things. 

“All I need is your prayers.”

with that, all we could say was, “yes, sir.” 

do pray for him. 

we will pray for you SIR MAYNARD !
